China has transported a record number of electric vehicles (EVs) overseas from a Shanghai terminal using a newly launched vessel, ChinChemora, carrying 7,738 new energy vehicles and surpassing previous domestic shipping records. The voyage marked the ship’s maiden journey, departing from Shanghai’s South Port Terminal with Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles bound for Zeebrugge, Belgium, for European distribution.
In the same port, another China-built car carrier, the Glovis Leader, berthed at the terminal en route to Busan, South Korea. Both ships are among the largest of their kind, with 10,800-unit capacities, as dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. Guided by China State Shipbuilding Corporation, Guangzhou Shipyard International developed these ships to expand eco-friendly maritime exports.
The vessels departed near Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, a key component of global supply chain strategies. Both ships were featured by the Xinmin Evening News, highlighting China’s advanced maritime technology in international trade.
