The Chinese Embassy in Bujumbura, Burundi’s economic capital, said the July 15 event served as a vivid illustration of cultural exchange between the two nations and reaffirmed a shared commitment to using cinema as a conduit for Sino‑Burundian friendship.
Zhu Kewei, China’s ambassador to Burundi, described cinema as a powerful tool for crossing language barriers, borders and cultural divides, noting that films embody a nation’s history, traditions, values and collective emotions. She added that many African viewers have come to know China through classic kung fu films starring icons such as Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
Beyond the screenings, China and Burundi intend to broaden collaboration through exchanges of creators, mobility of artists, university partnerships, joint productions, and skills development.
As part of the China‑Africa Year of Human and Cultural Exchanges, the Burundi festival showcased seven Chinese films, including The Wandering Earth II, Changan, and The Snow Leopard.
