China urges a stronger voice for emerging economies in global governance.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted that emerging economies are still underrepresented in global institutions and called for greater influence for developing nations within the United Nations.

In presenting a new white paper that calls for a more equitable global governance structure, the minister argued that all nations should possess an equal voice, particularly those from the Global South.

China’s remarks come amid widespread armed conflicts and significant economic challenges worldwide.

Whether Beijing can position itself as a leader for the Global South—and secure the necessary support to do so—remains uncertain.
