Bangkok — China’s foreign minister urged the United States and China to overcome their differences ahead of a planned summit next month between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping.
On Wednesday, Wang Yi met with U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue, urging both sides to focus on the positive agenda, manage differences constructively, eliminate interference, and remove barriers to high‑level exchanges, according to a Thursday report by state broadcaster CCTV.
He also noted that Sino‑American relations continue to face various risks and challenges, as stated in a CCTV release.
Trump and Xi met in Beijing in May, agreeing to keep the relationship stable and preserve the fragile trade truce. Trump extended an invitation for Xi to visit the United States on September 24, although the exact date of the Chinese leader’s trip remains unconfirmed.
Since that meeting, however, the two countries have persisted in taking targeted economic measures against each other — the United States has barred imports of Chinese‑made robots, while China has prohibited American firms from engaging in trade and other activities within its borders.
