Teams searching the rubble after a landslide in Chongqing have recovered three more bodies, raising the confirmed death toll to 11, while 50 people remain missing, authorities said Thursday.
Beijing — The search continues, but no survivors have been found since Friday’s collapse in Pengshui County, which buried more than a dozen residential buildings. Ten people were injured in the disaster.
Rescue operations have been described as “exceptionally challenging” due to the massive volume of debris, including large boulders. Responders are using heavy machinery, drones, and even blasting techniques to break apart the rock and reach trapped victims, according to the county government.
Pengshui County lies in the southeastern part of Chongqing, bordering Hubei and Guizhou provinces.
