Multiple Senate Democrats have scheduled a Capitol Hill press conference to express their dissent against the Clarity Act, citing its failure to address President Trump’s alleged corrupt crypto activities. Senators Murphy, Van Hollen, and Merkley will lead the event, emphasizing claims that Trump’s crypto interests are fueling political corruption in Washington.
Notably, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York highlighted that Trump’s $636 million in 2025 income—derived from a memecoin bearing his name—demonstrates the need for stricter regulations. She and other Democrats are advocating for a ban on presidential involvement in digital asset ventures.
“We must prevent self-dealing from undermining efforts to strengthen consumer safeguards, combat financial crimes, and expand economic access for underserved communities,” Gillibrand stated. “Immediate ethics reforms are required to block members of Congress, the president, and their families from profiting from their positions.”
Though the Clarity Act requires bipartisan consensus for passage, Democratic lawmakers insist that ethics prioritization must precede any legislative action.”
