LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday gave her approval for the establishment of the Asset Management Authority of Punjab (AMAP), aimed at identifying, managing and utilising the province’s assets to enhance transparency, governance and revenue generation.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the CM.
The newly formed authority will oversee the identification, management, transfer, disposal, payment and marketing of provincial assets.
It will act as a central body for administering government‑owned land and other public assets, handling everything from land administration to leasing and sale. Properties with investment or privatisation potential will be prioritised. A range of financing and development models — including leases, rental agreements, public‑private partnerships and joint ventures — will be employed to maximise the value of Punjab’s assets.
CM Maryam instructed officials to boost revenue through the sale, lease and collateral financing of provincial assets. She observed that no single entity previously existed to regulate the province’s dispersed assets and highlighted that public land remained susceptible to illegal encroachments.
She added that a sole autonomous institution would now be responsible for the comprehensive management and protection of provincial assets, welcoming the proposal to create the Asset Management Authority.
The meeting noted that a governing board, led by the chief secretary, will supervise the authority. A BPS‑20 managing director will direct its operations, with qualified private‑sector professionals recruited on merit. It was agreed that all matters concerning the transfer, valuation and management of assets will remain subject to provincial cabinet approval.
