WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes has shared his perspective on why he holds a deep appreciation for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Since its 2017 release, The Last Jedi has remained one of the most divisive entries in the franchise, sparking intense debate among the fanbase. During a recent discussion regarding an IGN ranking of the Star Wars saga, Rhodes’ commentary on the film gained significant attention.
While engaging with the rankings, Rhodes suggested swapping the positions of Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. When a fan questioned his approval of The Last Jedi ranking so highly, Rhodes explained that his affinity for the film is rooted in a deeply personal, wrestling-centric connection.
Rhodes noted that he admires the film’s portrayal of Luke Skywalker as a weary, weathered figure possessing one final, impactful moment of strength. He drew a direct parallel between this character arc and the career of wrestling icon Terry Funk, who famously reinvented himself throughout his storied career and continued to compete at a high level until his retirement at age 73. The Hall of Famer passed away in August 2023.
“I love it. LOVE. But my reason is fairly personal and oddly wrestling related. When these legends come back, they’re not the same. Didn’t want Luke with dyed hair and an 8 pack doing flips…I got a broken old man with one last real punch in him. But it was a helluva punch. Kinda’ like Funk. May the 4th be with you!” Rhodes shared via social media.
