In brief

  • Coinbase Canada CEO Eric Richmond confirmed that the firm is developing an “Everything Exchange” aimed at Canadian users.
  • The concept envisions a single application that would combine cryptocurrency, stock, ETF, and prediction‑market services, though no formal launch date has been announced.
  • Tokenized stocks—recorded on a blockchain for instant settlement, 24/7 trading, and full dividend entitlements—are slated for non‑U.S. customers, including Canadians, starting this month.

Coinbase is repositioning itself in Canada, urging users to view the brand not merely as a crypto exchange but as a comprehensive financial application designed to meet the country’s entire investment needs.

Eric Richmond, CEO of Coinbase Canada, told BNN Bloomberg that the company is pushing its “Everything Exchange” north of the border. The platform is intended to be a unified space where crypto assets, equities, exchange‑traded funds, and prediction‑market contracts can be traded from a single account, leveraging blockchain technology to provide seamless, frictionless 24/7 access.

“Chapter one of Coinbase in Canada was primarily about establishing ourselves as a crypto exchange,” Richmond explained. “Now we are moving into phase two—the Everything Exchange. Our goal is to create a single destination where Canadians can manage their complete financial portfolio, powered by technology that makes transactions effortless and available around the clock.”

The firm is collaborating closely with Canadian regulators as it moves forward, building on its status as the first international crypto exchange to register in the country back in April 2024. No definitive launch timeline for Canada has been disclosed.

In the United States, Coinbase has already made significant progress. Stock and ETF trading opened to eligible U.S. users in February 2026, and prediction‑market functionality was launched in January through Kalshi, a federally regulated operator now valued at roughly $22 billion. The company’s roadmap currently includes offering close to 10,000 stocks and ETFs on a single platform.

According to a prior company blog, tokenized equities—real‑world shares recorded on a blockchain for instant settlement and perpetual market access—are expected to roll out to non‑U.S. customers, including Canadians, beginning this month. Richmond framed the initiative as an expansion of market access.

When asked about competition from platforms such as Robinhood or traditional Canadian brokerages, Richmond expressed confidence that market evolution benefits all participants. “People are beginning to recognize the constraints of conventional finance—banks that close at 4 p.m., markets that shut for the day, settlement delays, and gated access for high‑net‑worth clients,” he noted. “A rising tide lifts all boats.”

Regulator‑wise, the Bank of Canada is anticipated to finalize stablecoin implementation rules in 2027, which would represent the final major regulatory milestone before Coinbase can introduce a Canadian‑dollar‑backed stablecoin and fully deploy the Everything Exchange in the country.
