Coinbase has introduced a new offering named Coinbase for Agents, enabling artificial intelligence agents such as ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude to link directly to users’ Coinbase accounts and execute financial transactions on their behalf.
The service became available on Wednesday, allowing AI agents to trade digital assets, retrieve market data, settle online purchases, and ultimately conduct transactions, all within parameters set by the user regarding spend and risk.
Coinbase states that the platform provides agents with advanced trading tools via natural‑language commands, permitting users to delegate tasks ranging from portfolio rebalancing to automated strategy execution. Initially, agents can trade spot cryptocurrencies and derivatives, with plans to add equity and prediction‑market support in the future.
The company is also adding support for x402, an open machine‑to‑machine payment protocol developed by Coinbase, which enables agents to make micro‑payments for services such as premium research, data APIs, and computing resources without requiring subscriptions or manual checkout.
