Cole Palmer has signed a new, improved contract with Chelsea, securing his long-term future at Stamford Bridge until 2034.
The England international, who was already under contract until 2033, has been rewarded for outstanding performances that have established him as one of Chelsea’s key attacking threats and a prominent dressing-room leader.
This landmark deal places Palmer among a select group of Premier League stars with commitments extending to 2034, alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Chelsea teammates Joao Pedro and Geovany Quenda.
Palmer originally joined the West London club from Manchester City in 2023 for a fee of £42.5 million, signing his previous contract just two years ago. This new extension underscores the club’s deep confidence in his ongoing development and pivotal role in the squad.
The renewal is the latest in a series of major contract extensions at Chelsea, designed to reward key players while maintaining a balanced wage structure. Joao Pedro signed a deal until 2034 in August, followed by Pedro Neto inking a six-year contract last month.
On the pitch, Palmer has developed a strong attacking synergy with Brazilian forward Joao Pedro, while also rekindling his close partnership with close friend and teammate Morgan Rogers under manager Xabi Alonso.
Palmer was also one of the key insiders involved in Chelsea’s negotiations to sign Rogers from Aston Villa for a club-record £117 million fee this summer.
Currently, Palmer has contributed four goals and two assists in seven matches this season, marking a strong return to form following a campaign heavily disrupted by injury.
Last season, the 24-year-old played through a persistent groin issue, later admitting he probably should have sought a break. The lingering problem ultimately led to his omission from England’s World Cup squad after seeking specialist advice on whether surgery was required.
Despite playing more minutes than any other Chelsea player this season, Palmer’s recent international absence prompted England manager Thomas Tuchel to remark that the team “misses too many opportunities” when he is unavailable.
However, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso confirmed that Palmer is expected to be fit and available for Saturday’s match against Bournemouth, emphasizing his complete commitment to both club and country.
“Absolutely. He’s committed, but he needs to be fully fit to play,” Alonso said. “And when he’s fully fit, he will enjoy his minutes. We need him in that moment. The club and the national team.”
Alonso added: “He trained over the past week and has been feeling better, but we didn’t want to rush him.”
Under Alonso’s management, Chelsea currently sit 10th in the Premier League table after five matches, having conceded 12 goals as they continue their tactical evolution.
