The Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City Chiefs traded blows throughout an entertaining first half, with the visitors taking a 20-17 advantage into the locker room.
Jonathan Taylor spearheaded the Indianapolis attack, amassing 74 rushing yards over the first two quarters, capped by a 24-yard touchdown run late in the second period. The Colts also benefited from a flag-heavy performance by the home side; Kansas City was penalized five times for 66 yards in the opening half.
Indianapolis’ quarterback completed 10 of 16 passes for 76 yards with a touchdown and an interception. That turnover proved costly, as it set up Kansas City’s first touchdown—a 13-yard connection from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce, marking the tight end’s first score of the season.
Mahomes finished the half 14-of-19 for 138 yards with two touchdown passes. Rashee Rice paced the Chiefs’ receivers with two catches for 46 yards, while Kelce added three receptions for 29 yards and a score. On the ground, the Chiefs’ backfield managed 39 yards on six carries, adding two receptions for 17 yards through the air.
Third-down efficiency told a stark story: Indianapolis converted 3-of-6 attempts, while Kansas City went 0-for-3. On the injury front, Colts receiver Alec Pierce exited with a heel injury—reaggravating an issue surgically repaired in the offseason—and has been ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Kansas City will receive the opening kickoff of the second half.
