The Committee of Families of Political Prisoners has urged the Palestinian Authority to release Dr. Shaima Abu Ghali without delay or condition, as she remains detained in Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank.
In a statement released on Thursday, the committee condemned the arrest as politically motivated and called on the authorities to safeguard her physical and psychological welfare while in custody, and to hold any responsible parties accountable for any harm inflicted.
The committee characterized the arrest as a violation of her liberty and warned that it undermines the sacrifices of Palestinian detainees and the families of those killed in the conflict.
The statement noted that Abu Ghali was released from an Israeli prison roughly three months prior to her re‑detention.
The committee also criticised the Jenin Magistrate’s Court for extending her detention by 15 days, asserting that she should have been released.
It further noted that Abu Ghali is the daughter of a Palestinian killed in the conflict, and that her ongoing detention carries additional symbolic weight for her family.
The committee argued that the detention of a recently freed prisoner raises broader concerns for former detainees and called for her immediate release.
At the time of reporting, the Palestinian Authority had not publicly commented on the committee’s statement or on the reasons for Abu Ghali’s detention.
