The Football Association of Wales is preparing for a possible departure of head coach Craig Bellamy to Burnley by compiling a shortlist of candidates, with former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper at the top.
FAW officials have held informal discussions with Cooper following reports that Burnley have renewed interest in Bellamy. Former Wolves coach Rob Edwards is also being considered.
Burnley are intensifying their pursuit of Bellamy as they search for a new manager after Scott Parker left following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
No agreement has been reached between Burnley and the FAW, which is seeking at least £1 million in compensation.
Should Bellamy return to the Clarets, where he previously served as assistant to Vincent Kompany, the FAW already has a list of potential successors.
Cooper, who most recently managed Brøndby in Denmark before becoming unemployed earlier this year, is a leading candidate and would not require a compensation payment.
Like Cooper, Edwards missed out on the Wales role when Bellamy was appointed in 2024 because he was then employed by a Premier League side—Luton Town in his case.
The FAW is also monitoring former Wales and Manchester United assistant coach Eric Ramsay, who briefly managed West Bromwich Albion during the 2025‑26 season.
