Corn futures experienced a slight retreat on Thursday following a midweek rally, with front-month contracts declining 3 to 4 ¼ cents. Deferred contracts fell by as much as 8 ¼ cents. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price dropped 3 cents to $4.82.
This morning’s Export Sales data reported 31,220 MT of old crop corn for the week ending August 20, marking a marketing year low. The Netherlands purchased 100,560 MT, Japan bought 84,200 MT, and a total of 277,500 MT were cancelled for unknown buyers, though most of the cancelled volume was redirected to alternative destinations.
New crop bookings for the week totaled 1.066 MMT. Unknown destinations accounted for 438,000 MT, with Mexico purchasing 208,800 MT and Honduras buying 92,500 MT. This represented a marketing year high for new crop bookings. Total accumulated sales for the 2026/27 marketing year reached 12.458 MMT, down 33.6% from the same week last year, yet remaining the fourth largest for this week over the past 30 years.
September 2026 Corn settled at $5.10 1/4, down 3 3/4 cents.
Nearby Cash was $4.82, down 3 cents.
December 2026 Corn settled at $5.33 1/2, down 3 cents.
March 2027 Corn settled at $5.47 1/4, down 3 1/2 cents.
New Crop Cash was $4.84 3/4, down 5 cents.
