Corn futures are trading higher by 6 to 7 cents. This rebound follows a weaker Friday session, where contracts declined by 2 to 3 1/4 cents, leaving December futures down 2 3/4 cents for the week. Open interest increased by 8,943 contracts. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price settled 3 cents lower at $4.82 1/4, pressured by double-digit weakness in the soybean and wheat markets, alongside losses in crude oil.
According to CFTC Commitment of Traders data, managed money increased its net long position in corn futures and options by 1,671 contracts. As of September 15, the net long position stood at 426,842 contracts.
As the week approaches with a meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi, the export wire has seen no new corn sales to China. Secretary Bessent met with his Chinese counterparts over the weekend to prepare for the upcoming discussions.
Brazil’s first corn crop is estimated to be 27% planted as of Thursday, according to AgRural. This pace is ahead of the 25% planting progress recorded last year.
