Cotton futures rallied to start the week, with contracts advancing 103 to 222 points across the board. The gains came despite a $1.81 per barrel decline in crude oil and a 0.178-point rise in the U.S. dollar index.
The USDA’s weekly Crop Progress report showed 74% of the U.S. cotton crop with bolls opening as of Sunday, while harvest reached 23% completion—two percentage points ahead of the five-year average. Crop conditions slipped slightly, with 33% rated good-to-excellent, down two points from the prior week. The Brugler500 index fell four points to 290.
On the cash side, The Seam reported 1,109 bales sold Friday at an average price of 74.16 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index declined 80 points on October 2 to 88.35 cents. ICE certified stocks dropped by 5,777 bales to 22,240 bales, while the Adjusted World Price fell 93 points last week to 65.16 cents per pound.
October 2026 cotton settled at 77.13 cents, up 198 points; December 2026 closed at 80.86 cents, up 198 points; and March 2027 finished at 83.71 cents, up 217 points.
