Liverpool supporters had high hopes for a major summer overhaul after the appointment of Andoni Iraola as manager, replacing Arne Slot at the end of the 2025‑26 campaign. The expectation was that this would mark the start of a transformative era for the Anfield club. However, Iraola’s tenure has so far fallen short of those ambitions.

To date, Liverpool have completed only two permanent signings this summer. One, Jeremy Jacquet, was secured in February and only officially joined Merseyside when the window opened. The other acquisition is Victor Munoz, a winger who is widely regarded as a squad depth option for the Reds.

Andoni Iraola has added defensive depth by signing Uruguayan Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona. Araujo struggled for minutes at the Camp Nou and hopes the move to the Premier League will reignite his career. Nevertheless, his loan is not a permanent solution for Liverpool.
With less than two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, Liverpool’s plans remain uncertain. French winger Bradley Barcola continues to be linked with the club, although Paris Saint‑Germain is understood to be demanding a record‑breaking fee for his sale.
A move for Barcola would be a major coup. He was a key figure in PSG’s recent Champions League victories and represented France at the 2026 World Cup. His proven elite‑level pedigree would make him an immediate impact player for Liverpool.
The departure of Mohamed Salah at the end of the 2025‑26 season highlighted Liverpool’s shortage of quality wingers. The club had been linked with Ivorian prospect Yan Diomande, but Real Madrid ultimately secured the player, who emerged as a standout star at the 2026 World Cup. Liverpool were unable to compete for his signature.
Barcola primarily operates on the left flank, unlike the right‑sided Salah. Iraola could reorganise the attacking lineup around the French winger, potentially pairing him with Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak. However, the latter two have not yet formed a cohesive striking partnership at Liverpool.
Many questions remain surrounding Anfield’s current direction, yet Iraola commands a talented squad. Liverpool’s substantial spending a year ago could still yield results under new leadership. Adding Bradley Barcola would bring another superstar to an already star‑studded group.
