Counter terrorism police have charged Joshua Kerry, 28, with preparation of terrorist acts targeting Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, in connection with the murder of former Conservative minister and Reform UK spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe.
The charge relates to alleged activity taking place between May 2024 and July 2026, authorities said.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans of Counter Terrorism Policing said the charge followed a “hugely intensive and complex investigation” conducted by a dedicated team of detectives, analysts, and forensic experts.
“This investigation has been led by a dedicated team of detectives, analysts, and forensic experts, working on multiple lines of enquiry, which has resulted in this very serious charge,” she added.
Kerry is due to appear in court on Wednesday over the terror charge, police confirmed.
Widdecombe was found dead on Thursday, 9 July, at her home in Haytor, Devon, having sustained serious injuries; she was 78 years old.
Widdecombe served as Conservative MP for Maidstone in Kent for 23 years and held ministerial roles in Sir John Major’s government during the 1990s.
Following her departure from Parliament, she appeared on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and later became a Reform UK spokeswoman.
