Coventry Market’s fruit and vegetable stalls, fish counters and bustling walkways have been repurposed as a filming location for a children’s television series.

Cameras are capturing real shoppers and traders as local children encounter unfamiliar foods in a new CBeebies programme.

Titled I Can Taste It, the series is designed to help three to six-year-olds develop confidence in exploring different foods through sight, smell, touch, sound and taste.

Hosted by Aaron Roach Bridgeman and puppet co-host Zesty, the show is being filmed on location at the market, which producers describe as an authentic setting where children can learn about food in a natural environment.

“It’s important that children see themselves represented in real places with real people,” said Dom Sant, founder of Common Story, the Leamington Spa-based production company behind the series.

He added that the market’s vibrant atmosphere, diverse range of stalls and strong sense of community made it the ideal choice for filming.
