Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Masino to Exit, Successor David Deno Named

Cracker Barrel announced on Monday that CEO Julie Masino will step down effective Aug. 10, succeeded by David Deno. Masino will transition to an advisory role through Oct. 9. Independent Chairman Carl Berquist emphasized Deno’s extensive experience in restaurant and retail sectors, highlighting his leadership in driving growth, operational excellence, and stakeholder engagement. The board expressed confidence in Deno’s ability to sustain Cracker Barrel’s legacy and enhance shareholder value.

Berquist also acknowledged Masino’s leadership and commitment to a seamless transition. Deno described the restaurant chain as an “iconic American brand” rooted in hospitality, expressing enthusiasm for advancing its potential through customer-centric strategies and profitable growth. Masino’s departure follows a controversial rebranding initiative last summer, which involved redesigning the logo, altering restaurant layouts, and refreshing the menu as part of a $700 million investment. The changes sparked backlash before being reversed within days. The company has since emphasized efforts to reintroduce popular elements while aligning with evolving guest expectations.

Masino, who served as CEO since 2019, previously led successful turnarounds for the company amid challenges like pandemic closures and supply chain disruptions.
