Crisis in Gaza: Footballers Watch World Cup Amid Ongoing Conflict
Fadi Al-Arawi, a dancer from the Gaza Premiere League, experienced a rare respite as he shielded his old sports club uniform and medals over a dimly lit laptop in a makeshift shelter. The saturated sounds of war—Israeli drones over Gaza—reminded him of the fragile stability surrounding him. Nearly the entire population of over 2 million Palestinians lives in a tightly controlled coastal strip, with infrastructure severely damaged from Israel’s two-year military operation. Despite a fragile ceasefire in October 2025, the conflict persists, and many fear ongoing bombings or violence. Rents are scarce, and online access remains unreliable. Gaza’s vibrant football scene, once a source of pride, now continues under harsh conditions. Al-Arawi emphasized the toll of the situation, noting the constant threat and the hope that matches might one day resume.
