Critical Directive: Updates on Evacuations Amid Impending Typhoon Bavi
Emergency measures are underway across Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands as the powerful super typhoon Bavi approaches. Up to 257 km/h winds are expected, leading officials to urge immediate evacuations and preparedness for catastrophic damage.
According to the US National Weather Service, Bavi is projected to hit the US Pacific territories early Monday, bringing catastrophic consequences including extreme flooding and towering waves. Authorities warn that wind gusts will be lethal, particularly affecting those outside safe zones.
The western Pacific is typically prone to tropical cyclones, but such intense storms are uncommon on these islands. Civil protection agencies have activated evacuation centers across schools, aiming to accommodate up to 1,700 people, with capacity constraints swiftly being addressed.
Residents and officials emphasize the urgency of the situation, urging residents to stay informed and adhere to official guidelines as the storm nears.
