Critical Update: Punjab Police Acknowledge CCD Oversight in Chakwal Incident, Emphasize Accountability
Punjab police and the Crime Control Department have formally acknowledged a mistake in the recent shooting of a young girl in Chakwal, stating that the incident will not be covered up or defended under any circumstances. The CCD confirmed the shooting as a case of criminal negligence, attributing responsibility to the lack of proper training among officials.
The affair, which resulted in the death of nine-year-old Hania and injuries to her family, has sparked concerns over institutional oversight. Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim described the event as “deeply tragic,” emphasizing the need for thorough investigation and accountability. A new executive director of the CCD, Sohail Zafar Chattha, stressed the importance of transparency, noting the public’s trust in the department hinges on acknowledging its errors. He expressed solidarity with the family and pledged to improve training and capacity within the police force.
Following a press conference, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the urgency of a transparent inquiry into the incident, calling for an examination of the circumstances. Police officials stated a full report on the arrested personnel would be presented within a week to ensure justice for the victim’s family and restore public confidence.
