During the first half of 2026, crypto exchanges evolved from simple trading platforms into full-fledged financial ecosystems. Users can now engage in cryptocurrency purchases, digital payments, stock investments, tokenized securities trading, and traditional asset-linked contracts—all within a single interface.
Perpetual contracts on stocks, ETFs, commodities, and other traditional instruments recorded over $1.6 trillion in total trading volume by late July. Notably, 62% of tokenized stock trading activity occurred during U.S. market closures, highlighting the 24/7 nature of these platforms.
Stablecoins have also expanded beyond crypto trading. Their total supply reached $311 billion in the first half of the year, with monthly on-chain transfers exceeding $1 trillion, accumulating to $8.8 trillion overall. Cryptocurrency card spending surged to $629 million in June—a 35% increase from January levels.
