Crystal Palace ‘Likely Unable to Stop Jean-Philippe Mateta’s Transfer to Nottingham Forest’
Crystal Palace could face difficulties retaining French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer, as Nottingham Forest emerges as a strong contender for his signature.
A former Premier League scout, Mick Brown, suggests Palace may have limited options to keep the player, given his contract situation and previous transfer interest.
The 29-year-old, with one year remaining on his Selhurst Park deal, has been linked with a move to Forest, where his former manager, Oliver Glasner, now leads the team.
While Manchester United has also expressed interest in Mateta as a potential backup striker, Forest appears to be the most probable destination for the international player.
Jean-Philippe Mateta Poised for Crystal Palace Exit
When discussing Mateta’s future, Brown highlighted the challenge Palace may encounter in preventing his transfer, especially considering his desire to leave in January and the potential for a compelling offer from Forest.
“Nottingham Forest are actively pursuing a new striker, and Mateta’s experience in the Premier League makes him a significant upgrade over their current options. The fact that Glasner has transitioned to lead Forest further strengthens their case,” Brown noted.
The prospect of a substantial bid from Forest could force Crystal Palace’s hand, potentially leading to Mateta’s departure as the club struggles to maintain control over his future.
Crystal Palace Faces Challenges Retaining Key Players
Mateta’s potential exit would compound Palace’s transfer woes, following Glasner’s departure and other notable player transfers. Ebruchi Eze previously moved to Arsenal, while Marc Guehi joined Manchester City earlier this year.
Adam Wharton’s future at Palace remains uncertain, though no formal offers have been reported. Meanwhile, Forest has faced their own transfer turbulence, with midfielder Elliot Anderson transferring to Manchester City in a highly lucrative deal.
