The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) announced Tuesday that five militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Mankor, a remote border area in Attock district’s Jand tehsil.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of operatives allegedly plotting attacks in Punjab, CTD personnel moved into the area. The militants opened fire as the team approached, triggering an intense gunfight. CTD officers returned fire effectively, neutralizing all five suspects.
Authorities recovered a cache of weapons, explosive material, and hand grenades from the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate the slain individuals were linked to plans for terrorist activities in Punjab, a CTD spokesperson confirmed, adding that the operation was launched based on sensitive intelligence regarding their movements and operational planning.
An extensive search operation is currently underway in the border regions of Attock to locate any potential facilitators or accomplices who may have fled during the raid.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the department for the successful operation against Fitna al-Khawarij—the state’s designation for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)—according to Radio Pakistan. In a statement, the prime minister praised the CTD’s professionalism and noted that security forces, police, and the department are achieving significant successes in the fight against terrorism. He reiterated the government’s resolve to eradicate terrorism in all its forms from the country.
