The Egypt national team stated that a Dallas police officer pushed their director, Ibrahim Hassan, and player Trezeguet while the two were attempting to take a photograph with a fan at the World Cup.
Local media reported that the incident occurred at the team hotel on Friday.
The Egypt national team faced Australia in the round of 32 on Friday in Dallas, as part of the World Cup tournament co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
“A man and his son approached to take a photo with Ibrahim Hassan and Trezeguet, and the team’s director granted permission,” said Mohamed Morad, Egypt’s national team media officer, in an interview with Reuters.
“However, a security officer intervened and shoved the fan, as well as Trezeguet and Ibrahim Hassan, despite the player and team director being in their designated area. Ibrahim then requested that the officer handle the fan appropriately.”
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) stated it was aware of a video circulating on social media depicting a heated interaction involving one of its officers.
“The Dallas Police Department responded to an area hotel following a request from hotel security concerning an individual attempting to gain access without proper event credentials,” according to a statement posted on social media.
“It was later determined that the individuals were not displaying their credentials properly, which is a mandatory requirement.”
“The situation was resolved on-site, with DPD meeting with team representatives to address their concerns. The matter has since been settled.”
