Dangote Industries Limited has cemented its position as Africa’s most influential corporate entity after securing the top spot in the 2023 Brand Africa 100 rankings. For the eighth consecutive year, the conglomerate was named the continent’s Most Admired African Brand during the 16th annual awards ceremony held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The pan-African study, hailed as the region’s most thorough consumer-driven brand analysis, surveyed 30 African nations encompassing 85% of the continent’s population and economic activity. Dangote’s sustained leadership demonstrates its entrenched position across key economic sectors including cement, fertilizers, petrochemicals, energy, sugar, salt, packaging, and logistics.
The rankings revealed Dangote maintained its position as Africa’s Most Admired Industrial Brand and was recognized as the No. 1 African Brand Contributing to a Better Africa. The company outranked major continental competitors including MTN, DStv, Shoprite/Checkers, and Trade Kings, reflecting its significant impact on industrial development, employment creation, and sustainable economic growth.

This accolade underscores Dangote’s expanding continental footprint through strategic investments across multiple value chains. Notably, the company ranked second in Africa’s Spontaneous Recall category, trailing only MTN but surpassing Trade Kings, highlighting its growing consumer recognition.
Founder and Chairman of Brand Africa, Thebe Ikalafeng emphasized the strategic importance of elevating African brands to global recognition. “Converting public goodwill into measurable commercial value through brand admiration remains Africa’s most urgent economic imperative. True continental progress demands active consumer preference for Made-in-Africa products,” he stated.
The 2023 survey, conducted through comprehensive consumer perception analysis, revealed African-led brands currently represent only 15% of the continent’s top 100 most admired brands, underscoring persistent global corporate dominance despite regional efforts to promote homegrown enterprises.
Dangote also demonstrated exceptional performance in sustainability metrics, securing the second position in the Social Impact category that recognizes brands making meaningful contributions to societal development and environmental stewardship.
Amidst fierce competition from multinational corporations, Dangote has maintained its status among Africa’s elite corporate entities alongside leading continental brands such as MTN and Ethiopian Airlines. The conglomerate’s achievements reflect its strategic positioning as a pan-African economic catalyst.
Further bolstering the Group’s credentials, its Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer Anthony Chiejina was named among 20 African marketing leaders in the inaugural Africa CMO 100 (ACMO100) initiative. Selected from a continent-wide pool of industry professionals, this recognition acknowledges his pivotal role in strategic communications and reputation management.
The dual recognition of Dangote’s brand excellence and Chiejina’s marketing leadership highlights the company’s growing influence in shaping Africa’s corporate landscape. According to Brand Africa’s evaluation criteria, both accolades resulted from rigorous assessments of innovation, market impact, and contributions to sustainable brand development across the continent.
