Darius Rucker was honored with the 2026 Veterans Voice Award Presented by USAA’s Honor Through Action at the 52nd American Music Awards on Monday night. The Hootie and the Blowfish frontman and Diamond-certified country artist continues to advocate for military communities through his support of organizations like the Military Warriors Support Foundation. His career has included numerous overseas USO tours and performances at veteran-focused events such as the DoD Warrior Games.
“Receiving the Veterans Voice Award means everything to me,” Rucker said during his acceptance speech. “We all have the power to support our brave men and women serving our country. While we show appreciation on special occasions like Memorial Day, we must commit to recognizing their sacrifices every single day.”
“Throughout my travels around the world, I’ve met service members who’ve shared incredible stories,” he continued. “These individuals have endured experiences beyond imagination. In those moments, you witness true resilience and gain profound perspective on what courage really looks like.”
Rucker concluded his remarks by reflecting on a conversation with a veteran: “When someone thanks a veteran for their service, they’re often told ‘Thank you for your service’ in return—but what they’re really saying is ‘Thank you for what we’re serving.’ That’s the message we should carry forward. We must strive to build a community and nation worthy of their sacrifice.”
“Tonight, let’s use every voice we have to show our love, appreciation, and gratitude to those who serve,” he added.
The Memorial Day broadcast also featured Rucker reuniting with Hootie and the Blowfish bandmates, who performed “Hold My Hand” and “Only Wanna Be With You” from their 22x Platinum debut album, 1994’s Cracked Rear View.
