Coulthard Names Kimi Antonelli an F1 Phenomenon after Historic Monza Victory
Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard describes Kimi Antonelli’s charge from 19th on the grid to winning the Italian Grand Prix as a career‑defining performance that stands shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the feats of the greatest drivers in the sport’s history.
The Mercedes driver secured his seventh career Grand Prix victory before the Roaring 60s crowd at Monza, becoming the first Italian driver to claim the race in sixty years.
“That belongs among the greats,” Coulthard stated when reflecting on Antonelli’s display during the Up To Speed podcast.
“I’m keen to avoid elevating a twenty‑year‑old with only seven wins into the same tier as Hamilton, Verstappen, Senna, Schumacher, all multi‑time world champions. Vettel was present that afternoon, visibly mourning Michael Schumacher’s legendary era.”

Antonelli’s triumph at Monza further widened his gap in the Drivers’ Championship. His margin now stands at 66 points ahead of teammate George Russell, with seven‑time World Champion Lewis Hamilton trailing by 76 points.
