Former Australia limited‑overs batsman David Hussey has stepped down as Victoria’s head of men’s cricket to assume a role with a new global initiative that Cricket Victoria will launch in the coming weeks.
Hussey, who played 87 Sheffield Shield matches for Victoria—winning three titles and captaining the side 21 times—was appointed to the position in August 2022. He was tasked with overseeing the men’s program and participating in selection after departing his head‑coach role with the Melbourne Stars in the BBL.
During Hussey’s tenure, Victoria reached two Shield finals (2022‑23 and 2025‑26) and a One‑Day Cup final (2024‑25). Although the team did not secure a trophy, he directed a contract strategy focused on developing home‑grown Victorian talent.
Cricket Victoria’s general manager of cricket performance, Graham Manou, praised Hussey’s impact on the state programme.
“David’s influence on the organisation and the broader Victorian cricket community is immeasurable,” Manou said. “Through his passion for the game, commitment to excellence, and investment in people, David has helped strengthen the foundations of our male high‑performance program while leaving a lasting legacy across Victorian cricket.”
