Dazy Unveils MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2: 24 New Tracks

Richmond rock ‘n’ roller James Goodson is a music publicist and, full disclosure, an occasional show buddy of mine. He’s also the one-man banger factory behind Dazy, a project that has cranked out many, many excellent songs since Goodson started anonymously dropping Bandcamp tracks during the 2020 COVID summer. Back in 2021, a year before he became a Stereogum Artist To Watch, Goodson released MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD: The First 24 Songs, his compilation of Dazy’s first year. Today, he announces plans to follow it with MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2: 24 Songs From 2023-2026, another comp that features a bunch of tracks that we haven’t heard yet.

Thus far, Dazy has released exactly one proper album, 2022’s OUTOFBODY. Since then, he has continued to crank out new songs, and they’ve mostly come out one or two at a time. (The last two, “BIG Problem” and “Gravity,” dropped in May.) Throughout its trajectory, Dazy has collaborated with artists such as Militarie Gun and Bodysync, and his own tracks have evolved into more psychedelic trip‑hop textures without sacrificing the fuzzed‑out ’90s alt‑pop immediacy of his earlier work.

Seven of the tracks on MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2 are brand‑new, including “Beat Change,” the single that he released today. It is a massive, swirling rocker lasting five and a half minutes, potentially the longest and most ambitious composition Dazy has produced to date. I genuinely appreciate this song, which opens loud and trippy before swelling even louder and more psychedelic. Goodson delivers lyrics that tackle age, the fear of life’s transience, and its terrifying ephemerality. Below, check out “Beat Change,” the MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2 tracklist, and details on Dazy’s upcoming tour with Militarie Gun, Softcult, and Shady Nasty.
