Heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding have claimed the lives of at least 62 people across the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, according to officials on Monday.

The regional government reported 46 injuries and the destruction of over 1,000 homes following three consecutive days of torrential rain that triggered severe flooding in multiple districts.
Authorities closed schools across parts of the state on Monday, including the capital city of Lucknow, while rescue operations commenced to relocate residents from inundated areas to safer zones.
Citizens have been urged to refrain from traveling through waterlogged regions and to avoid fast-flowing rivers, streams, and drainage systems.
Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, stated that precipitation was expected to subside from Monday as a weather system over the Bay of Bengal lost strength.
He noted, however, that light rainfall could persist in the eastern and western portions of the state through Tuesday.
The floods also impacted the eastern state of Odisha, where more than 75,000 residents were evacuated to secure locations, officials confirmed.
In neighboring Nepal, 21 fatalities were recorded in weather-related incidents between Thursday and Sunday, the national disaster management agency reported.
Five individuals remain missing and five others sustained injuries, while subsequent floods and landslides damaged 194 homes.
Nepal continues to recover from catastrophic flooding in August that resulted in over 1,400 deaths and nearly 6,000 people missing.
