101 East examines whether power and politics have shielded those responsible for the brutal 2006 murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu in Malaysia.
Twenty years ago, two Malaysian special‑forces officers killed Altantuya Shaariibuu, a Mongolian woman, using C4 military explosives to obliterate her remains.
The motives for the killing remain unclear, fuelling suspicions that the crime was part of a political plot to silence her.
Across Mongolia, Malaysia, France and Australia, 101 East investigates allegations of interference in the criminal proceedings, alleged links between the victim and a controversial submarine deal, and claims by the officers that they acted under orders from convicted former prime minister Najib Razak. Razak denies any involvement.
