Deep Purple have unveiled the latest offering from their upcoming album ‘Splat!’, featuring the heavy track ‘Diablo’ below.
The legendary rock group will release the 24th studio album of their long‑standing career, following their 2024 release ‘=1’, scheduled for July 3 on earMUSIC.
They have previously released the high‑energy single ‘Arrogant Boy’ and now return with ‘Diablo’, a trippy, muscular composition featuring guest guitarist Keith Urban.
The track is available on streaming services, and the accompanying video is slated to premiere on Sunday night (June 7).
Frontman Ian Gillan described the song as an invitation to take risks, urging listeners to step outside familiar patterns and embrace the unknown.
‘Splat!’ marks Deep Purple’s collaboration with acclaimed producer Bob Ezrin, known for his work with KISS, Pink Floyd, and Lou Reed, and is regarded as one of the band’s heaviest releases in recent years, recorded live in the studio.
According to Gillan, the current lineup of Deep Purple embodies a contemporary expression of the group’s classic 1970s sound.
‘I am pleased to confirm that the new material aligns with the dynamics, balance, and spirit of classics such as ‘Highway Star’, ‘Smoke on the Water’, and ‘Lazy’, reflecting the band’s evolution from 1969 to 1973. Deep Purple remains in a strong position today.
‘Splat!’ will be issued as a 2‑LP gatefold 180g box set, featuring a 12‑page booklet, a CD digipak, three exclusive 10‑inch vinyls of live recordings from their 2024 tour, and a limited 7‑inch single with the bonus track ‘GUINNESIS’.
Deep Purple will embark on an extensive 86‑date world tour later this year, including a major performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 25.
Last year, Gillan disclosed that he is experiencing progressive vision loss, with approximately 30 % of his sight remaining, and has indicated that retirement may be approaching. He remarked that the condition adds a sense of mystery to life and presents challenges, such as viewing computer screens only with peripheral vision, but that adaptation is possible.
