Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals have returned to the spotlight following a pointed remark aimed at media reports concerning KL Rahul and his future with the franchise. The team’s recent social media interaction with the Indian cricketer comes amidst speculation regarding an alleged altercation between Rahul and head coach Hemang Badani during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
The alleged incident triggered widespread speculation about Rahul’s tenure with the franchise, as reports suggested Delhi Capitals might sever ties with the batter ahead of the 2027 season. These rumors were subsequently quelled when co-owner Parth Jindal publicly expressed his support for Rahul.
In this context, DC’s official Instagram account commented on one of Rahul’s recent posts, stating ‘Kisi pe phekna mat (Don’t throw it)’, which appeared to allude to the earlier reports of a coffee-throwing incident.
The reports had claimed that Rahul and Badani engaged in a heated dispute, with the India batter allegedly throwing coffee at the head coach. This led to further speculation that Rahul might be traded or depart the franchise before the 2027 season.
However, Jindal later rallied behind Rahul, effectively dispelling the rumors. The franchise’s latest social media engagement has brought the episode back into the public eye, with their comment quickly capturing the attention of cricket fans.
KL Rahul’s Standout IPL 2026 Performance
The controversy occurred despite Rahul delivering an exceptional season with the bat. Retained by Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore ahead of IPL 2026 after being acquired at the IPL 2025 mega auction, Rahul concluded the campaign as the franchise’s leading run-scorer.
The right-handed batter scored 593 runs in 14 matches at an average of 45.61 and a strike rate of 174.41. His season featured one century and five fifties, establishing him as one of the top performers in an otherwise underwhelming campaign for the franchise.
Delhi Capitals failed to advance to the playoffs. Under the captaincy of Axar Patel, they finished sixth on the points table with seven wins and seven defeats from 14 matches, accumulating 14 points.
Badani served as the team’s head coach during both IPL 2025 and IPL 2026.
