Democrats have secured control of both chambers of the United States Congress, flipping the Senate and the House of Representatives in a nationwide repudiation of President Donald Trump that is poised to stall his agenda for the remainder of his term.
The election delivered a slate of historic milestones: voters elected the first Black female governor, the first openly gay male senator, the first Muslim senator, and the first female Native American governor. These landmark victories underscored sweeping Democratic gains across the map.
The new majorities grant the opposition substantial leverage to block legislation, launch wide-ranging investigations into the Trump administration, and scrutinize judicial and senior executive appointments.
The results reflect profound voter dissatisfaction driven by rising living costs, tariff policies, and the administration’s confrontation with Iran, which has elevated fuel prices and compounded frustration with an already deeply unpopular president.
