Yorkshire 215 for 8 (Revis 69*, Aitchison 3-46) tied with Derbyshire 215 for 9 (Madsen 62, Tye 3-36, Hasan 3-36)

Derbyshire Falcons’ impressive T20 run against Yorkshire at Chesterfield came to an end as their Vitality Blast North Group match concluded in a thrilling tie.

The Falcons appeared poised for their ninth straight win after posting 215 for 9, but Matthew Revis’s unbeaten 69 from 32 balls brought Yorkshire close to victory. However, needing 18 off the final over from Akif Javed, Revis hit two sixes but only managed a single on the last ball, resulting in a tie.

Wayne Madsen led the charge with 62 from 33 balls, supported by Martin Andersson’s 51 off 27, helping Derbyshire post the highest T20 score at Chesterfield. Yorkshire’s chase began poorly with Jonny Bairstow’s duck and Will Luxton’s 46 from 21 balls, but they struggled until Revis’s heroics nearly secured a dramatic win.

Yorkshire lost George Hill early due to heart palpitations, with his condition under assessment. Despite losing skipper Aneurin Donald in the second over, Derbyshire’s powerplay yielded 73 runs.

Yousaf Bin Naeem showed promise in his T20 debut before being caught behind. Andersson reached his fifty in 25 balls, with his aggressive hitting on both sides of the wicket proving pivotal.

Madsen and Andersson’s four fours off Dan Moriarty’s over, which cost 18 runs, propelled Derbyshire to 116 for 2 in 10 overs. Tye slowed the Falcons with key wickets, but Moeen Ali’s over saw Madsen reach 50 in 27 balls. Revis then dismissed Moeen, but Ross Whiteley’s 36 from 20 pushed Derbyshire past 200.

Tight bowling in the final overs restricted the Falcons to 17 runs, setting up a record T20 run-chase for Yorkshire. Yorkshire’s chase faltered early with Bairstow’s duck and Adam Lyth’s dismissal, but Luxton’s four sixes kept them in the hunt before being caught in the powerplay’s final over, leaving them at 53 for 3.

Sufyan Moqim’s second over removed Sam Whiteman, and when Moeen Ali fell in the 12th over, Yorkshire seemed out of contention at 95 for 5. Faheem Ashraf and Revis revitalized the chase with 21 runs off Andersson’s over, but Ben Aitchison’s three wickets in the 17th over shifted momentum back to Derbyshire.

Revis continued to hit sixes but fell short of securing Yorkshire’s first T20 win at Chesterfield since 2014.
