While many filmmakers opt for ambiguity in their endings, Obsession director Curry Barker has clarified the canonical fate of Nikki beyond the film’s climax, even extending his vision to future projects in the same universe. Spoilers lie ahead.
The film concludes with Nikki awakening from her supernatural curse as Bear dies, leaving her alone amid the bodies of three deceased individuals: Bear, who succumbed to a lethal overdose; Sarah, beaten beyond recognition; and Ian, shot in the head, whose fortune totals a billion dollars. As the fingerprints on the weapon link Nikki to these crimes, Barker has since confirmed her trajectory in a candid interview with Cinemablend. “She probably goes to jail,” he stated. “Given the circumstances, a lengthy prison sentence seems inevitable. The money in the house complicates matters further, and her connection to it would likely seal her fate.”

Despite the film’s resolution, some viewers question whether the One Wish Willow rules—whereby a dying person’s wish vanishes—would apply to physical currency rather than spiritually altered lives. Barker acknowledges these narrative inconsistencies, noting that the wish mechanism inherently defies logical constraints, birthing a world where reality bends unpredictably. His upcoming horror-comedy, Anything But Ghosts, further tests this premise. Set in the same universe, the film includes a fictional news broadcast referencing “a triple homicide committed by a woman,” effectively confirming Nikki’s capture and conviction offscreen.
Moving forward, Barker envisions expanding the franchise through sequels or an anthology series exploring the consequences of fractured wishes. He emphasizes that the core issue lies not in the wish itself but in its manipulation—specifically, Bear’s removal of Sarah’s free will, which catalyzed the ensuing horror. This philosophical undercurrent, Barker argues, underscores the story’s deeper resonance beyond its supernatural thrills.
