The Los Angeles Dodgers initially looked set to miss this year’s traditional White House celebration for the 2025 World Series champions. Concerns over scheduling and local opposition left the franchise uncertain whether fans would see the team receive the customary invitation.
When a scheduled series in Washington, D.C., following the championship season failed to materialize into a visit, speculation grew that the Dodgers might forgo the tradition—especially as many Los Angeles fans had urged a boycott in response to policies championed by President Donald Trump.
However, an unexpected scheduling window has now allowed the defending champions to preserve the long‑standing custom. “The Dodgers couldn’t fit a White House visit into their series against Washington because of the game schedule, and with no other trips to the nation’s capital this season, it appeared they would miss the tradition,” Edward Lewis noted for the New York Post. “But with an off day between series in Philadelphia (July 20–22) and New York (July 24–26), they found a window that worked for a visit with Trump.”
The Trump administration confirmed the visit ahead of the planned ceremony. “President Trump is excited to welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers BACK to the White House to celebrate their World Series championship!” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement.
White House visits for World Series winners have spanned multiple administrations, and the Dodgers have celebrated recent titles under both Republican and Democratic presidents. The upcoming event underscores the franchise’s effort to balance athletic tradition with the complex political climate of Southern California.
The last time the Dodgers appeared at the White House under a Trump presidency sparked substantial backlash. Fans in Los Angeles and across California pointed to policies they viewed as harmful to local residents. Reporting by Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic highlighted that the 2024 champion roster fully attended the ceremony, noting that players such as Mookie Betts—who skipped the 2019 Red Sox White House visit when Trump was in office—and Kiké Hernández, who urged Trump to “show some humanity” in 2017, were part of the traveling party.
The new ceremony will add another chapter to this ongoing narrative, turning what once seemed like an impossible scheduling problem into an opportunity to uphold a classic baseball tradition while the team prepares for another postseason run.
