Doechii has officially revived her acclaimed “Swamp Sessions” series with the release of her powerful new single, “Bombs.” In a candid, deeply personal manifesto, the artist opened up about her artistic journey, her commitment to redefining the landscape of hip-hop and pop, and the empowering vision behind her new chapter.
Spending the past two years studying the language, history, and roots of hip-hop as a student, Doechii describes her current era as one of absolute creative freedom, adventure, and integration. The artist, who writes from her home in Topanga, shared her mission to see Black womanhood exist at the center of both hip-hop and pop music.
“I spent the past few years relearning Hip-Hop as a student. Studying its language, its history, its roots. Now, I feel inspired to contribute to evolve it. To stretch it through different genres, different sounds and different parts of myself,” Doechii wrote. “This chapter of my life is about FREEDOM. Freedom, adventure and unpredictability are serving me… A mission is brewing inside of me to see Black Womanhood exist at the center of Hip-Hop AND Pop.”
Through her music and artistic persona, Doechii aims to become the dark-skinned icon she wished she had seen while growing up. Her vision embraces the raw, unpolished, and theatrical elements of artistry, celebrating the grit, glamour, and vulnerability of the human experience. With “Bombs,” she invites her fans—and the world—to embrace total self-devotion, giving themselves permission to evolve and embody all of their complexities at once.
