Over the course of her legendary career, Dolly Parton established herself as one of the most successful country artists in history. Though her commercial peak predated the era of digital downloads and streaming, Parton has remained a towering figure in music for decades. Even in recent years, she was widely celebrated as an icon — yet on several of Billboard‘s charts, her work had never reached the top spot.

Since her death less than a month ago, fans across the country have paid tribute by embracing her catalog in extraordinary numbers. Not long ago, Parton earned her first-ever No. 1 on one of Billboard‘s most prestigious sales rankings, and now she has doubled that achievement in an exceptionally uncommon feat.

Dolly Parton Overtakes Herself at No. 1

Last week, Parton earned her first No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart with “I Will Always Love You.” According to Luminate, following her passing, purchases of the beloved track — which became a massive hit for both Parton and Whitney Houston — surged dramatically, with the song selling 15,200 copies on platforms such as iTunes.

This week, “I Will Always Love You” falls to third, while “9 to 5” takes its place at the top, giving Parton her second chart-topper. “9 to 5” moved an additional 9,750 copies during the latest tracking period, allowing Parton to replace herself at the summit.

Dolly Parton Nearly Earned Her First No. 1 Earlier This Year

Parton came remarkably close to securing her first Digital Song Sales leader just months before her passing. In late January, a reimagined version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” debuted at No. 2 — falling just one position short of the top spot. The updated recording features guest vocals from Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah, Reba McEntire, and Parton’s goddaughter Miley Cyrus, and all five artists simultaneously landed new top 10 entries.

Dolly Parton Dominates the Digital Song Sales Chart

The Digital Song Sales chart comprises 25 positions, and Parton currently appears on 12 of them — nearly half the entire list. Seven of those tracks sit within the top 10, and Parton holds all three podium spots. As “9 to 5” replaces “I Will Always Love You” at No. 1, “Jolene” remains at No. 2, where it debuted just days ago.

Dolly Parton Amasses 26 Entries on the Digital Song Sales Chart

Parton has now accumulated 26 career appearances on the Digital Song Sales chart. That total includes seven songs that would not qualify for the ranking under its current format, which was trimmed to 25 positions several years ago. Twelve of her 26 entries either first appeared on the chart or reached new peak positions following her sudden and unexpected passing.

“9 to 5” Hits New Highs Across Five Billboard Charts

“9 to 5” appears on seven Billboard charts this week and reaches new peaks on five of them. The classic climbs to Nos. 1, 6, 10, 21, and 82 on the Digital Song Sales, Country Streaming Songs, Streaming Songs, Billboard Global 200, and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., respectively.
