Dolly Parton shared a recent health update following the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025, in an interview with People. She acknowledged ongoing health challenges she had previously overlooked while managing her personal circumstances.
Recalling past health difficulties from the early 1980s—specifically “female issues” that kept her incapacitated for months—Parton emphasized how modern social media intensifies scrutiny of health matters. “It’s not like I haven’t faced tough times with my health,” she reflected. “But today’s 24/7 connectivity makes every incident feel amplified in ways it wasn’t before.”
Maintaining her signature wit, Parton quipped, “I used to joke about being the Queen of the Tabloids, but now I might as well claim the title of Queen of Social Media AI!” She reconfirmed her commitment to her work, stating, “Even though I’m still healing, I’m still working.”
The singer is exploring innovative fan engagement through “avatar performances,” a concept she described as still in its infancy. This project, in collaboration with tech companies, aims to merge digital avatars with live performances.
During a virtual appearance at the Academy of Country Music Awards to receive the Poet’s Award, Parton acknowledged her inability to attend events in person due to health reasons. “I’ve told you before, folks—I’ve had some health setbacks. I get dizzy, dehydrated. My doctor even said I shouldn’t travel this week,” she shared, humorously referencing her “clipped wings.”
Despite health setbacks, Parton remains active. Her Nashville-based SongTeller Hotel—a venue complex featuring live music spaces, a speakeasy, café, and her Life of Many Colors Museum—is set to open soon. The museum, described as the largest exhibit celebrating her life globally, will span “every dynamic decade from mountains to the top of the world,” according to its website.
