Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane has agreed to a four-year contract extension, positioning him among the NFL’s highest-paid players at his position. League sources confirmed to The Athletic that the deal guarantees $32 million and includes $64 million in base compensation. With incentives, the former Texas A&M standout’s earnings could reach $68 million, keeping him with the Dolphins through the 2030 season.

This extension makes Achane the NFL’s third-highest-paid running back by average annual value, at $17 million. He now ranks behind only Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles ($20 million) and Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers ($19 million), according to Spotrac.com.

Achane, who will turn 25 in October, is fresh off his first Pro Bowl season. Last year, he achieved a career-high 1,350 rushing yards with a league-leading 5.7 yards per carry. Drafted by the Dolphins in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Aggies product made an immediate impact as a rookie, recording 800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in just 11 games.

The Dolphins are expected to heavily rely on Achane following significant changes to their offense. In March, the team traded star receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos, waived starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (who subsequently signed with the Atlanta Falcons), and released veteran receiver Tyreek Hill. The franchise also appointed former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as its new head coach, replacing offensive-minded Mike McDaniel. Hafley has since named Bobby Slowik, previously the Dolphins’ senior passing game coordinator under McDaniel, as his offensive coordinator.
