Doug Dulgarian, founder of the Philadelphia hardcore band They Are Gutting a Body of Water, has revealed a cancer diagnosis. Following the announcement, the band canceled their upcoming North American tour, retaining three December performances: shows in Brooklyn on December 9 and 10, and a hometown concert on December 18. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support Dulgarian and the band during his treatment.

According to Dulgarian, he received the diagnosis on October 16, coinciding with the release of the band’s new mixtape, Kool Faith / Loosies II. The compilation featured contributions from Spirit of the Beehive, Hotline TNT, RXK Nephew, Horse Jumper of Love, and Greg Mendez. The tour was originally scheduled to commence on October 29 in Baltimore.

The announcement is difficult to address, but necessary.

I received the diagnosis last Friday, on the same day we released Kool Faith. It was a day filled with every possible emotion.

Consequently, the tour has been postponed while I focus on treatment, which begins in a few weeks.

I remain optimistic that things will work out. Having navigated many challenges throughout my existence, I am no stranger to facing adversity head-on.

I want to make clear that I am not seeking pity or attempting to sway others’ emotions. I am simply informing the community. I genuinely believe this will resolve fine; my life has been incredibly blessed, and I never lose sight of that.

I also believe that dwelling on self-pity is unhelpful; if I start to feel I deserve it, it would signal the beginning of giving up.

This is not the end of the world.
