Dutch Health Institute Declares Red Alert Over Lethal Trump-shaped Ecstasy Pills

The Dutch addiction‑treatment and mental‑health institute Trimbos issued a red alert on Friday after several presumed ecstasy pills shaped like the head of former U.S. president Donald Trump were submitted for drug testing.

The tablets bear the engravings “Trump” and “NL” and have been seen in green and yellow.

The institute warns that these pills contain a high level of PMMA, a chemical that mimics MD‑MA. Because PMMA takes longer to act than MD‑MA, users may be tempted to consume more, increasing the risk of overheating and potentially fatal consequences.

Officials explicitly advise against taking the pills and note that as of now no serious adverse events have been reported.

Ecstasy production, sale, and use remain illegal in the Netherlands despite widespread occurrence; a 2024 government report estimated about 550,000 individuals using the drug each year.

Trump‑themed pills are not new—German police seized thousands of orange versions in 2017.
