The England and Wales Cricket Board is investigating a nightclub incident involving captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson after England’s victory at Lord’s on Sunday.
According to an ECB statement, the pair were involved in a breach of team protocols during the early hours of Monday, following the conclusion of the first Test against New Zealand.
This incident represents the latest in a series of controversies that have plagued the England team since the recent Ashes series, which was marked by allegations of a drinking culture.
Consequently, England has instituted a midnight curfew for all players and staff.
“The ECB is currently investigating a breach of team protocols following the conclusion of the first men’s Test against New Zealand,” the statement noted.
“Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were present at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday when the incident occurred,” the statement added.
“We are seeking further information, and a decision regarding the squad for the second Test will be announced in due course,” the ECB said.
“The Cricket Regulator has been informed and we will provide an update when more information becomes available,” the statement concluded.
