Echo and the Bunnymen Return with First Album in a Decade: ‘Apples for Isaac’
Although Echo and the Bunnymen have maintained a consistent touring schedule, the English rock band has not released an album since 2014’s Meteorites. This gap ends with the release of Apples for Isaac on September 18, marking their first studio album in 12 years.
“The legendary Clem Burke, a lifelong friend of Mac, was central to the album’s creation and tragically passed away during its final stages,” the band shared. “Love you Clem.”
In a recent conversation with Mojo, vocalist Ian McCulloch attributed the lengthy hiatus to pandemic disruptions and a need for lyrical clarity. “Perhaps it was the pandemic that played a role,” he reflected. “I also felt lyrics needed to be meaningful—cryptically, yes.” He noted the album finally matches his original vision: “It’s sounding exactly as I imagined. I decided to sing it just as I wanted to hear it.”
