[Economist Urges Price Transparency to Tame US Healthcare Costs, Criticizes Obama Era]
Heritage Foundation Chief Economist EJ Antoni examines the USDA’s $57 million meatpacking investment alongside JD Vance’s market observations, and analyzes the rise in family health insurance premiums.
Former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law is under scrutiny from an economist who contends that enhanced price transparency is essential to reducing U.S. healthcare costs.

Antoni emphasized that robust competition relies on strong price transparency, noting, “You cannot have competition, and therefore cannot generate downward price pressure without transparency. This is the first priority for Republicans,” he said.
Antoni argued that enabling patients to view prices before treatment enhances meaningful competition, asserting that consumers must be able to compare costs.
Existing price‑transparency rules for hospitals and insurers continue, yet debates persist over whether they provide consumers with actionable information for selecting care.
WHY MILLIONS OF SENIORS ARE GETTING CHECKS FROM THE GOVERNMENT
Ret. Lt. Col. James Carafano offers sharp criticism of former President Barack Obama’s handling of Iran on “The Evening Edit.”
The Affordable Care Act expanded coverage, yet ongoing disputes over premiums and out‑of‑pocket costs remain central to the healthcare debate.
Antoni held Obama responsible, contending that the legislation fell short of its intended patient benefits.
Antoni asserted that Obama fundamentally fractured the healthcare system, creating a landscape where patients bear higher premiums and receive diminished care.
BESSENT COMPARES OBAMA LIBRARY TO ‘DARTH VADER’S TOMB’ AFTER EX‑PRESIDENT CRITICIZED WHITE HOUSE RENOVATIONS
Fox Business’ Connor Hansen reports from Washington, D.C., on a new Paragon Health Institute study revealing that 9.2 million Obamacare expansion enrollees failed to meet federal requirements in 2024.
His criticism coincides with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I‑Vt., championing Medicare for All, a proposal for a national single‑payer health system that would supersede most private coverage.
Antoni warned that seniors could lose preferred insurance plans under a Medicare‑for‑All model, with outcomes contingent on the specific legislation enacted.
Antoni noted that seniors, ironically, stand to benefit the least, as they would be forced to leave preferred plans, usually,” he stated.
